The Inspirational Vijay Eswaran

Not every successful business entrepreneur has had humble beginnings, but Vijay Eswaran has indeed started from the bottom to the top. He attended London School of Economics in 1984 where he attained a socio-economic degree. On the record, after graduation, he had to do odd jobs where he plucked grapes in France and was once a cab driver in London.

In the UK, he came across binary system marketing which pushed him to get certification from CIMA and after that an MBA. He later returned to Malaysia where he got to multilevel marketing (MLM) full-time. This was when he co-founded QI Group (1998) which is an MLM company. Currently, he is worth $550 million. His experience in network marketing has helped him build the business to where it is right now. Some of the key pointers he says that help you work towards being a successful entrepreneur are:

  • Before starting his own company, he had a team of people where they used to work for a foreign company but didn’t do well, and they had to close down. Surprisingly, the employees stuck by him and they encouraged him to come up with his own company. He says that this particular motivation is what started QI Group.
  • Most people think that financial security is getting good and stable jobs. In the real sense, changing that common perspective is what leads to financial freedom. Getting out of your comfort zone and be an entrepreneur is the driving force.
  • Meditation is part of the routine for Vijay which helps his concentration levels all day. It also helps him strategize and come up with more creative ideas.
  • Patience is the key and not giving up. There is no immediate success in any business you venture. Therefore, don’t give up just keep pushing on until your breakthrough.

Vijay is an active philanthropist where he has a foundation, Vijayaratnam Foundation that helps in community development. The foundation offers scholarships to deserving students. Apart from being at QI Group, he is also an author and a motivational speaker. His latest book which was published in 2016 is ‘Two Minutes From The Abyss’. In 2013, he earned the title of CEO of the Year at the Malaysian Business Awards.
